Eight Judicial District Court Judges take over Canyon Springs High School

On Saturday – August 17, 2013 in North Las Vegas, Nevada; Veterans In Politics International and Canyon Springs High School and the Leadership and Law Preparatory Academy produced the Inaugural ‘First Annual Meet & Greet Your Clark County District Court Judges’ event.

Thirty-two District Court Judges from the Civil/Criminal and Family/Juvenile departments appeared and supported this event. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson and Clark County Public Defender Phil Kohn were moderators. Each Judge was given a few minutes to introduce themselves and answered questions provided by the moderators and audience members (see Videos below).

The event began by North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee welcoming everyone to North Las Vegas, Canyon Springs High School Principal Ron Guerzon welcoming everyone to his school and Clark County School Board Trustee, Dr. Linda Young and Clark County School Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky thanking everyone in attendance on behalf of their constituents. Nellis Air Force Honor Guard presented the American flag, Miss Nevada 2011 Alana Lee sang the “Star Spangled Banner” and Pastor Michael Haynes gave the invocation.

According to statistics over 70% (seventy percent) of Clark County residents will appear before a district court judge as a Plaintiff or Defendant once in their lifetime.

Many Clark County residents have once said that they will never stand before a judge and felt that it was unimportant to learn about the incumbents and candidates running in the election race.

Every area of a person’s life is impacted by decisions made by judges.

Family Court Judges make life-changing decisions about adoption, child custody and support, alimony, divorce, emancipation, foster care, guardianships of person and estate, legal name changes and so on.

Civil/Criminal Court Judges make life-changing decisions about construction defect lawsuits, DUIs (Driving Under Influence of Drugs or Alcohol and both), sentencing someone to death or life in prison without parole, First Amendment lawsuits, home foreclosures and evictions, landlord/tenant disputes, parole and probation violations, multimillion dollar civil lawsuits, elections, taxes and more.

Clark County Judges influence stems very far from Mount Charleston to Laughlin to Boulder City and to Jean/Primm to Mesquite, everything in between covering 8,091 square miles covering five municipalities; District Court Judges earn an average of $200,000.00 annually and each election term is six years.

For the first time in Nevada’s history all 52 District Court Judge will be on your voter ballot for year 2014.
