Dinner with Sheriff Gillespie to discuss Bill 496 may compromise Assembly leaders ethics and violate the Open Meeting Law

Las Vegas, Nevada (April 10, 2013) — Tonight one dozen Assembly leaders are in danger of being compromised by Sheriff Gillespie if they meet with him privately to discuss Bill 496. It is a violation of the Open Meeting Law for a Bill’s sponsor to meet with a quorum about any bill before a vote is casted. According to sources this is exactly what Sheriff Gillespie is trying to coax Assembly Leaders into doing. Will an elected official whom is sworn to uphold the law knowingly or unknowingly coerce innocent Assembly Leaders to break the law?

Bill 496 proposes to increase Clark County Sales Tax to pay for more cops on the streets, although LVMPD (Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department) currently has a $136,000,000.00 surplus that was supposed to be used to hire more cops. A secret deal has been struck with LVMPD and Chris Collins, President of the Police Protective Association, to get their support on this bill because LVMPD has not received support from the City and County.

In Arizona a Judge opposed using tax money to bankroll public servants to work for private groups.

Please Vote Against Assembly Bill 496: This bill is in workshop session tomorrow at 1PM. Taxation Committee Regular meetings are held in Room 4100 at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cast your vote and voice your opinion.

Original Bill Summary:

•              Makes various changes relating to the Clark County Sales and Use Tax Act of 2005. (BDR S-1068)

Current Bill Title:

•              AN ACT relating to taxation; providing the legislative approval required for an increase in the tax imposed pursuant to the Clark County Sales and Use Tax Act of 2005; suspending temporarily the application of certain provisions of the Act; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

Contact your local Assembly leader and discourage them against meeting privately with Sheriff Gillespie, and also against supporting Assembly Bill 496.
