VETERANS IN POLITICS INTERNATIONAL REQUESTS FORMER CLARK COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY DAVID ROGERS TO RECUSE HIMSELF FROM THE STANLEY GIBSON SHOOTING CASE

Veterans In Politics International (VIPI) believes that David Rogers, as the former Clark County District Attorney investigating the shooting of Stanley Gibson, should not represent Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Jesus Arevalo – who fired seven shots from an AR-15 and killing Gulf War Veteran Stanley Gibson.

The Las Vegas Police Protection Association has the resources to hire any one of many of the great criminal lawyers who practice law here in Clark County to ensure Las Vegas Police Officer Jesus Arevelo’s rights are fully protected without the assistance of former District Attorney David Rogers.

David Rogers served as the Clark County District Attorney at the time Stanley Gibson was fatally shot and killed by Las Vegas Police Officer Jesus Arevalo on December 12, 2011. While all this was going on, Rogers was negotiating a new job as the General Counsel of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association. Earlier this year the VIPI filed ethics violations against David Rogers with the Nevada State Ethics Commission and the Nevada State Bar Association.

For these reason, we request that David Rogers recuse himself in this case to avoid the appearance of any conflict of interest. Further, due to the fact that David Rogers was the District Attorney when this incident occurred, we further request that David Rogers not provide any legal assistance in this case whatsoever. We believe that any legal assistance by Rogers on behalf of Officer Arevalo would be in direct conflict with his prior position of District Attorney when this incident occurred and constitute a breach of ethics and undermine the public’s trust.

Veterans In Politics International is prepared to file a Bar Complaint and an Amicus Brief motion in court to ensure David Rogers does not violate ethics and/or the interests of Clark County Residents.
